Carla Tilghman, LPC

Board Member

Carla Tilghman, a licensed professional counselor, holds a Master's degree in Counseling from the University of Arkansas Little Rock, which she earned in 2012. That same year, she embarked on a career as a Police Officer. Over her 13 years in law enforcement, Carla developed a deep passion for enhancing mental health de-escalation training (CIT) for officers and advocating for reducing the stigma associated with seeking treatment for first responders.

Her passion for mental health began in her youth, inspired by her great-grandfather's service in World War II. He was her hero and role model. Carla herself briefly served in the United States Air Force. After discharge, her Staff Sergeant suggested a career in law enforcement, which ultimately shaped her future.

For approximately four years, Carla served as the Craighead County Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator. During this tenure, assisting in managing the CIT training program. She spearheaded the development of co-response programs with the Craighead County Sheriff's Department, Jonesboro Police Department, and the Conway Police Department. Simultaneously, she held both the positions of coordinator and co-responder.

Carla, driven by a genuine desire to assist individuals grappling with trauma-related difficulties, holds a special passion for supporting veterans and first responders as they navigate the emotional baggage that often accompanies their service. As an EMDR clinical professional, Carla firmly believes in the efficacy of this therapy.

Currently, Carla works at Retrospect Counseling (Jonesboro, Arkansas), a clinic specializing in trauma treatment. She also continues to volunteer with CIT training.

Carla is married to her husband, Brian and they have 3 children. In her free time, Carla finds peace and rejuvenation in nature. She enjoys hiking, running, and leisurely walks with her family. Additionally, she finds solace in reading, writing, and practicing yoga to unwind and connect with herself.
